"What's Happening in
City Government and why are our cities all going broke?"
Today's guest: Patrick Henry Jones
About our guest
Patrick
Henry Jones grew up in Redding, attended Shasta College and
Sacramento State University. For the past 28 years he has worked in
the family business at Jones Fort - a full line gun shop. He has
always had a deep concern for the economic health of the city.
Patrick was an active member of the Redding City Council 2006 - 2014
where he fought to control expenses and help the city live within
its means.
AToday
we're going to discuss how a city with 90,000 people in rural
northern California has driven themselves into a position of
impending defecit spending. How will that end? Bankruptcy? Where do
the 11 unions fit into this? Why do we have 11 unions? Why are the
negotiations done in city council closed session meetings? What
would change if the taxpayers had more input?
I know that we usually do topics that are national or international
in scope but this sort of systemic destruction of our cities and
counties from within is happening at all levels of government in all
parts of our county. I can only assume that this also happens in
other countries. Patrick Jones isn't a guy who suger coats the
information. You'll get a detailed look at how this has come to pass
in our relatively small town and that might give you the right
questions to ask and signs to watch for in your own town to avoid a
budget disaster.
